One Person CAN Make a Difference!!!

A few months ago, I got the opportunity to meet Kaylee. She came to a Clipping for a Cause meeting to find out more about how to start her own chapter at her church. She fit right on in with us, in fact, we all wished after she left that she lived closer so she could join us weekly! All of us especially got a laugh when we sat down to clip coupons and saw her whip out her very own pair from her pocket! BYOS (bring your own scissors!) we all joked!!

Anyway, since then, her church has kind of had a slow start to beginning the ministry. Instead of getting discouraged, Kaylee has used it as an opportunity to continue to be diligent in following her personal calling to help others in the community. Recently, she decided to individually organize a mobile food drive in her loft apartment complex. She was able to collect 502 total items for her local food pantry! She didn't stop there, however, and did a separate one at work to add over 150 items to the list!

Kaylee is an inspiration to all of us. No, 650 items are not going to come close to feeding all of the people right here in our own country who are hungry. However, it is 650 more items than the food bank shelves would have had if it weren't for Kaylee's effort.

Harris Teeter Super Doubles!

If you are a Harris Teeter shopper (man, we really need one here in Atlanta!!) then you will want to check out Emily's list of additional items she found on the super doubles list this week! Emily heads up the Clipping for a Cause team in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has created a great blog that locals can especially learn a lot from when it comes to donating to people in need for little to nothing in that area! Click here for her list. Some of my faves were FREE Gain Dish Liquid, FREE Toilet Bowl Cleaner, FREE pancake mix and FREE Yakisoba Noodles (a staple at all food banks!) Thanks Emily!

Libby's Virtual Canned Food Drive!

Now this I had to share with you! Libby's has organized an unbelievable effort called the "Virtual Canned Food Drive." This year, they have partnered with Feeding America to help those who are less fortunate. The part that caught my eye about this effort is: "Teams that raise $1,500 or more for Feeding America will get their pantries stocked with a year’s supply of canned vegetables from Libby’s." When you think about it, even if just you and a few of your friends got together and formed a team and asked those closest to you to donate $5 here, or $10 here, I bet you could raise $1500 in no time! You can read the full article here, but the following info was taken straight from the Libby's website!

This year, Libby’s wants you to help families in need get back to the table through the Virtual Canned Food Drive supporting Feeding America.

At Libby’s Fruits and Vegetables, we passionately believe that every capable family should help those less fortunate. This is why we partnered with Feeding America for the second year in a row to empower you, your family and your community to give back to Americans who are food insecure.

The online food drive encourages families and friends to form teams and engage their communities to support them. Teams that raise $1,500 or more for Feeding America will get their pantries stocked with a year’s supply of canned vegetables from Libby’s. Individuals are also welcome to either form teams or simply donate.

In addition, Libby’s Fruits and Vegetables will match up to $40,000 of donations raised between now and Dec. 13, 2010, which will help provide 525,000 meals for families in need! As a thank-you, Libby’s will give every person who contributes to the Virtual Canned Food Drive a coupon for 50 cents off two cans of Libby’s Vegetables.

Every five dollars donated helps provide 35 meals for families struggling with hunger. This is a cause we hope everyone will stand behind!

Hamilton Mill UMC "Clipping for a Cause" Chapter: Spent $1.30, Saved $22.15!

If you are a "Clipping for a Cause" follower, then you are aware that several new chapters of this ministry are popping up right here in Georgia as well as nationwide! One of these, led by Erin C., has recently started up at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church. I am so proud of Erin and her team and amazed at what a great start they have gotten off to in such a short amount of time! She also has a separate blog which includes weekly updates and details about their effort to help the needy in their community. Please click here to visit it when you have a chance!

This week, she shows us how only $1.30 can purchase over $20 worth of groceries for the local food pantry! The following came straight from her website:

Here is what my family picked up this week at Publix for The Pantry with coupons:

*2 Ronzoni Healthy Harvest boxes of pasta
*5 Ronzoni Garden Delight boxes of pasta
*1 Taco Bell kit
*7 one-pound bags of Mahatma rice

If you were to purchase these items without sales & coupons, you would pay $22.15.

With sales and coupons, we only paid $1.30!!
